Market Stree house gone

Here is one last look at the old historic home on East Market Street.  It is going down and will be a memory by the end of the week. It was definitely tired and worn out.....kinda like we humans become.....so we are not losing a treasure.  But we sometimes think that anything that reminds of the early days of Searcy Ar becomes a treasure.  It was featured in another blog. Old blog on Market Street house

Here is the house in 1987 when it was for sale in one of our advertisements.

East Market Street house

It did have some charm with fancy trim in some areas.  Read the ad.  Who can remember assumable loans?  Once we assumed VA and FHA and Bond loans with NO credit check!  Just sign your name, give the seller his equity and become a homeowner.  In lots of cases the owner had NO equity so the house was yours for almost no money!  Those may have been the good ole days!

Say goodbye to one last memory!

How sad. I hope somebody can at least use it as a bulding lot.

Hi Carol,

I think the lot will be used as a place for more apartments or a parking lot.  Thanks for stopping by.

The day Harding tries to raze my friend's houses on East Market:   Epperson, Killough, Hubble, Hoffman, Rice and Wilkerson....is the day I lay by body across the bulldozer.  All but the Rice and Wilkerson houses are brick....not in great shape now as Harding students live in them, BUT......they are a part of Searcy's history and remain very precious to me.

The class of SHS '54 is having a mini-reunion tomorrow...for lunch. We are all  a part of Searcy growing up, when Searcy was in it's prime.

Anita, when you put your body in front of the dozer, I'll be there to watch.  Some of the houses along there look pretty rough with ivy growing all over and no one who cares about their house allows ivy to take it over.  You might need to go do some clipping.  Have fun at the mini reunion.
