Optimism: Planting Tulips in the Fall

All the leaves are brown

And the sky is grey.

As I write this, the completely clouded over sky just got a bit darker and I'm anticipating a bit of rain. The sun will set tonight before I even sit down to dinner, and it will be dark when my alarm goes off tomorrow morning.

Autumn is not for the faint of heart.

So let's all do something today that will remind us of the wonderful things to come. My mother loves to read gardening catalogs when the dreary weather gets her down. Our daughter paints her nails pretty spring colors. Wayne will read this and buy me some daisies to put on the table.

I'm going to plant some tulips. I'll get some cold mud under my nails, but it's worth it because I can anticipate the bright yellow and pink flowers popping up in the spring.

What do you do for yourself when the weather gets you down?

I love this post, Jean, it's a very clever way for you to get Wayne to buy you flowers! If it's a really awful bad day I look at photographs I have taken, sunsets, sunrises, flowers, deer. Pretty flowers, BTW.
