Adopt a Gaithersburg family for Thanksgiving or Christmas
Now is the time to participate in the 19th Annual City of Gaithersburg Holiday Giving Program. Donate some Target gift cards or adopt a family for the Thanksgiving or Christmas holidays. This program usually serves about 800 families and there will be greater needs this year with the reductions in the food stamp program.
If you live in another area, please support your local programs to assist needy families during the holidays.
This is the official announcement from the City of Gaithersburg:
Help Families in Need through the City of Gaithersburg Holiday Giving Program
The City of Gaithersburg, for the nineteenth year, is coordinating a Holiday Giving Program that will serve as many as 800 City families in need. Partnering with Calvary Pentecostal Ministries Church, the Gaithersburg Coalition of Providers, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, and Grace United Methodist Church, the City is committed to ensuring that eligible families have the opportunity to enjoy a memorable holiday experience.
The City thanks its many Holiday Giving supporters and donors and invites the entire community to participate in this year’s program. Individuals, businesses, congregations, and other groups can make monetary contributions or provide Target gift cards in denominations of $10 and $20.
The program also recruits sponsors to “adopt” Gaithersburg families for Thanksgiving and/or the December holidays by providing food baskets at Thanksgiving and gifts for children in December. The Holiday Giving brochure, available below, has complete information and guidelines.

Referrals for the Holiday Giving program come to the Gaithersburg Community Services Division from area schools and nonprofit counselors. The program operates in conjunction with the countywide Holiday Giving program to ensure non-duplication of services. This countywide effort is coordinated by A Wider Circle through a grant from the Montgomery County Department of Health Human Services.
For more information, download the Holiday Giving brochure online or contact Lisette Orellana at 301-258-6395 x2.
In addition to food and gift distributions and matching families with donors, the Holiday Giving program also encompasses dinners hosted at The Oaks at Olde Towne and Forest Oak Towers Apartments, two residential communities for older adults.
