We've been listening to Christmas songs and seeing holiday decorations in stores for a few weeks now. Right after Labor Day, while we were still walking around in summer outfits, stores jumped ahead by 3 months, overshot Halloween and Thanksgiving and decked the halls for Christmas.
Well it's finally here. The real calendar has caught up with the retailers' calendar. The first sign of the holidays in Chicago is the annual Magnificent Mile Lights Festival, which will take place this Saturday, November 23rd. The festivities begin early in the afternoon with kid-friendly activities all along Michigan Avenue.
A tree lighting parade begins at sundown when Minnie and Mickey and their Disney friends will lead the parade down North Michigan Avenue. As they pass each block, Mickey's wand "lights" trees along the route. You can see scenes from last year's parade here.
