A new New Years Resolution

A new New Year resolution is an exciting way to kick off 2014!

Resolving to lose weight, eat healthy and exercise are a few popular New Year resolutions. However lifestyle patterns are like well worn tracks in a road; they are deep and difficult to navigate. Most of us know that sweeping resolutions are not successful and often leave us feeling disappointed. So here is the new New Years Resolution-

Make a New Year resolution that is so small, you will hardly notice a difference in your daily routine. I know this sounds less challenging but maybe its why it has worked for me.

For example, instead of resolving to "eat healthy" everyday, I vowed not to eat after 7 o'clock at night. This small change caused me to eat dinner earlier and buy less snack foods. When I wanted to lose about 15 pounds, I considered making a resolution to go to the gym three times a week. Instead, I promised myself I would go to a weekly Sunday morning yoga class. Again, not a big sexy resolution but one that I could keep and still keep 10 years later!

While these health resolutions had a long lasting positive impact on my life, the best resolution I made pertained to my career.

Before working with home buyers as an Exclusive Buyer Agent, I had a successful career in radio broadcasting. According to the Arbitron numbers, I spoke to 30 thousand people every time I opened my microphone. The pressure to succeed was intense and my on-air relationships were often strained. One particularly difficult year, I made a New Year resolution to be kind to myself and others. Sounded easy enough but when I put it to practice, it was intense! I discovered I judged myself and others all the time and we all came up short of my expectations! So I began saying or thinking the phrase, "be kind" whenever I felt insecure or judgmental. This small phrase had a profound impact on my life. Saying, "be kind" changed my relationships for the better and boosted my self esteem and confidence.

I believe being kind is a natural state of mind that gets clouded over by our hectic lives. Being kind may seem like a vague New Year resolution but I believe this small shift in your thinking will be profound. You may discover that you lose weight, eat healthy and excercise just because you are no longer burdened by negative thoughts.

Whatever your New Year resolution, I wish you great success and happiness! Make 2014 your best year ever!

Exceeding Expectations. Delivering Results

My New Year's resolution is to abstain from sweets 4 days a week. Sweets are my weakness. In the meantime, can't wait to dive in to the carrot cake tomorrow.  I have until the end of the year to change my eating habits. :-)
