Just in time for the cold weather! The 20th anniversary Lowcountry Soup Challenge is on the horizon!
WHEN: SUNDAY, JANUARY 19, 2014
Noon to 3PM
WHERE: WESTIN RESORT & SPA
2 Grasslawn Avenue, Hilton Head Island, SC
HOW: Tickets are $15 and may be purchased at the door
WHO: Volunteers in Medicine
This highly anticipated event started out as basically a 'walk-about' along the sidewalks of the Tanger Outlet shopping center, moved to Hilton Head at the Shelter Cove Mall, and has been at other hotels on the island as well. This year, to celebrate 20 years of Volunteers in Medicine's service to Hilton Head, it moves to the newly renovated Westin Resort & Spa on Hilton Head Island close to Port Royal Plantation.
It's a terrific opportunity to get warm inside sampling soups from 20 of the areas best chefs and restaurants in a pretty venue with a view of the Atlantic Ocean.
VOLUNTEERS IN MEDICINE provides a much needed service of high quality care for many residents of the area. For 20 years, Volunteers in Medicine Hilton Head Island has been providing free health care on Hilton Head Island. The relentless efforts of founder Dr. Jack McConnell have ensured that everyone in our community has access to free, compassionate, quality-driven health care.
INSIDER TIPS
BRING an empty stomach - the selections are creative and go from chowders, to vegetarian, to alligator stew, to Thai offerings, spicy, mild, and everything in between
PARKING; because this year the event is at the Westin, most likely parking will be much better. Still always better to come earlier than late.
BRING WATER - sometimes there are drinks available, sometimes not - again, this is the first at this venue so not sure.
BE GENEROUS - the event provides major funding for VIM which is a very worthy cause. They also always have cookbooks to buy onhand, and ask gently for any other donations that you'd like to give.
