I had forgotten about this Kringler recipe until I recently had an opportunity to catch up with a friend from my college days. She reminded me that I had shared this Kringler recipe with her.  She has now incorporated making a Kringler into a family tradition at the holiday season. Isn't it funny how something you share can have a lasting impression on someone and you are not even aware of it?

I used to bake more before my family decided that the cornerstone of baking was the root of all evil in the world of food.  I am talking about the mouth watering combination of sugar, butter and flour. There are so many delicious things you can make with those three key ingredients that are so delicious but really are not the best for your waistline.

However, I am a firm believer in all things in moderation- including moderation!  So indulge a little. Invite friends over for coffee and serve this Kringler as a snack.  Kringlers have a very short shelf life, a Kringler is best served warm within an hour or two of baking.

Who knows maybe you will add making a Kringler to your holiday traditions.

 Kringler

Kringler Recipe

1 C flour

1 stick of salted butter

1 Tbls of water

Mix the ingredients together like a pie crust.

Put the pie crust mixture on a cookie sheet in two long strips

Puff Pastry

1 Stick of butter

1 C water

3/4 C flour

3 eggs

Melt the butter, add the water and the flour, beat well.  Add the eggs one at a time, warm the mixture in between each egg.  Spread the puff pastry over the pie crust and bake for 1 hr at 350 F.  Let cool for about 5-10 mins before frosting.

Frosting

1/2 C Powdered sugar

1/8 C water

1/8 C cream

1 Tsp vanilla extract

Add powdered sugar to the water and then add the cream and vanilla, add additional sugar to create the right consistency as needed.

Sprinkle the Kringler with sliced almonds and serve.
