OPEN CARRY For Texans. Will it be unprofessional for Realtors to carry a gun?

Reblogger Jack O'Neal

Interesting Blog, If my Realtor needs to carry a gun (in the Open), to show me houses, What does this say for the area, is he trained to carry a gun?? I know several Realtor's that carry and they should not, what would the liability of the Brokerage be if the shot the client????

Only reason I re-blogged this is to get more discussion on the point

Gubernatorial candidate Wendy Davis just announced that she also supports her rival Attorney General Greg Abbott with the expanding gun laws for Texans. This includes the controversial "Open Carry" concept. Open Carry simply means any individual who has a license "to carry" can openly carry a firearm. I've had a CHL for almost 8 years. Sometimes when I show houses I carry. The reason I don't always carry my "concealed" gun is because the clothes I am wearing don't work well with a concealed weapon. If the law changes that won't matter.

As a Realtor we are always doing our best to put forth a positive and welcoming personality. Not everyone in the Lone Star State is a gun enthusiast and not all buyers who relocate to Texas are excited about gun slinging Texans.

As a buyer or seller how would you feel if the Realtor who came to show your home was strapped with a firearm? How do you think this could potentially harm an individuals business, if any? The people who love guns will love it. Will buyers feel safer traveling with an armed real estate agent?

What do you think and why?
