National Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington, DC
If you are planning a spring visit to Washington, DC, you may wish to attend the 2014 National Cherry Blossom Festival from March 20 through April 13th. This is the 102nd anniversary of the gift of the cherry blossom trees by Japan.
The National Park Service has predicted that the peak period for blooms will be April 8 through April 12th. The peak dates vary from year to year, depending on weather conditions, and the average is March 31. The peak bloom was on April 9th last year and and was on March 20th in 2012.
The peak bloom date is defined as the day on which 70% of the cherry blossoms are open. Watch the news reports of any changes that are announced by the National Park Service.
