The March issue of The Mirabel Post reminds us that our amazing weather has made all kinds of critters come out and about!
Some helpful reminders of what to do if you encounter some of our animal friends:
Rattlesnakes-If you are outside and see a snake, just keep your distance and let them move along. Unless a snake is cornered or threatened they are "just passing through".
Feline predators: Bobcats are commonly sighted around the Mirabel neighborhoods. Bobcats are predators, so don't leave small pets outside unattended. They do shy away from human contact and usually just making loud noises while shoo them away.
Javelina: The Javelina, also known as the Collared Peccary, is an indigenous pack animal that roams the desert looking for food and water. The main thing with Javelinas is to avoid letting them get trapped in your yard.
Bees: Bees generally leave humans alone unless they becaome agitated. If you encounter a swarm of bees the best thing to do is out in the open crouch or lay face-down on the ground and cover your head until the swarm is gone.
