He Tells Me I Don’t Want You Wasting My Time And Then I Say
I was finishing dinner and taking plates to the kitchen sink when the phone rings…
I’m sitting in front of one of your signs -- is this a condo or what?
Ahh, what a nice way to start the conversation, I say to myself.
This will be short…
I tell him the property in question is a townhouse and actually has an accepted offer. What are you looking for?
I want that but I want it to be single level.
(Well, I want to be taller, handsome, very rich -- but just because I want it doesn’t it make it come true)
Well, everything in that particular complex is multi-level. Can you tell me some of your other requirements. By the way, may I have your name? My name is Michael Jacobs. And the phone number you called me, is this the best number? Is it your cell?(I recognize as out-of-area)....
He goes on to tell me his name ---- and oh
I don’t want to buy - I want to lease and if possible it should be furnished and short term would be most desirable.
Hmmm --- and your budget is? I ask.
Well, I don’t want you wasting my time --
No problem, Mr Jones as I have plenty of opportunities to waste my own time, I definitely don’t want or have any desire to waste yours. He has no definite time frame because this would be a second home. He warms up(a bit) and tells me more about his situation. It makes sense. It won’t be easy. And remember, it’s a lease. I did a quick search and come up with one possibility - it won’t work but I tell him I’ll keep in touch but only should something appropriate come up. I receive a reply email a bit terse but thanking me. I then receive a second email telling me to increase the budget he has established.
This may or may not lead to anything -- you never know what may happen when you pick up the phone. If you have a particular need I will be honest with you and tell you what you can expect - I have no desire to waste your time.
