"Don't give up, don't ever give up!"
In tough real estate times, and I know a lot of you don't think this is, it is important that you keep the words of legendary basketball coach Jimmy Valvano in the back of your mind at all times. This man did the unthinkable with a team that had no business winning a national championship. It was not so much because of his excellent coaching skills, but more so because of his desire to be the best at what he did and to elevate those around him.
The real estate gig is tough enough as it is, so it is easy to give up on it when things are not going so well. But as we all know, the business is not only cyclical but poses its challenges as well. Today's market in South Florida is a challenge for those agents working with buyers who are financing. Although the facts are that the market here is rebounding it is still tough for buyer's agents who are not working with foreign cash. I have been working with a buyer who is financing for over three months and have lost several houses to cash, so it is easy to throw in the towel. But I believe that sooner or later something will give and we will find a seller who sympathizes with us.
At the end of the day you still have to show up for work and continue trying to help your clients regardless of the situation. It will change because it always does. So when you cannot find that perfect home even though your agent is doing his absolute best, continue to recite the immortal words of Jimmy V.
