Flash Flooding is Not Funny...Especially the "Debris"!

Flash Flooding is No Laughing Matter--You Never Know What Kind of "Debris" You Could Find!

Someone has to be the one to lighten the mood.  We suffered round two of severe storms dumping over 6 inches of water in less than 48 hours.  With power out, flash flooding, and straight line winds, you can only imagine the helplessness that we all are feeling.

Whether you were affected by your car floating away in the street, or a tree hit your house and left a hole, or you still don't have power, Iowa is no stranger to severe weather this time of the year.  And the debris....all the branches that are down, people's decks....you name it.  But this type of "debris" may just take the cake!

Storm Damage June 30, 2014

To lighten the mood, I got to make a call to my out of state seller this morning.  As I was surveying the damage, trees on power lines, no power, flooded basement (about 2 inches), thankfully, all tile flooring so easier to clean than carpet!  I was taking pictures of the raging "creek" that is now a consuming river.  I panned over to a tree that had been snapped in two and saw two cows with bright ear tags staring at me.  We have.....cows....add this to my strange stories in my novel I am writing in my head.

cows washed in from the flood

If only they could talk and tell me about their journey several miles down the creek.  There is no farm with cows for miles around this area!  Our best assumption is that the fence was removed from the force of the water and they tried to cross and floated downstream to my seller's place.   I called the police department and thankfully, someone had already called looking for their missing cattle... I only know where two are!

You just have to laugh.  Only in real estate, you cannot make these things up!

Keep smiling!

Karen, it would be funny if it wasn't so sad. People are suffering enough today without mother nature adding any additional. Hope things clear up real quick.
