Credit Tip Series - Tip Number 9

Mortgage and Lending with First Heritage Mortgage NMLS #: 938761

Credit series tip number 9: If you've cleaned up an account you had late payments or were delinquent on, consider calling the credit card company to request a removal of the negative information. You may not get a yes, but it's worth a shot!

It's always worth a shot to give your credit card company a call. A different scenerio, but I once had a late payment and was charged a $25 fee. I had never been late before so I called the company and asked if they could waive it. They said yes and it was all taken care of! Never hurts to ask!

Whitney, with added importance of our credit reports you are absolutely right that whatever a consumer can do to clean theirs up is worth a shot.  I've lost a bill or never actually received one in the past and calling the company was all it took to get a late payment removed.  Typically, they are more apt to do it when you've shown a consistent on time payment history...great tip!

Whitney, this is great advice. We travel a lot with my husband's job and can be away for over 4 weeks. Sure enough we have a late charge on something. Call the company and it's removed. But you have to be paying attention, and your credit score has to be good for them to waive the fee.

The answer is always NO unless you ask. What can a phone call hurt? Nice tip!

Have a nice day!

Nick-That's true! Credit card companies do seem eager to work with their customers who show responsible use of that credit.

Debbie-Yes the key is to be paying attention to bills and due dates. I love automated payment systems :)

Noah-I'm glad you're enjoying this series!

Shannon-It's always worth a call. I hope you have a lovely day as well!

Whitney,

I never thought of this tip and it is a good idea. i am not sure it will work as most of these call centers are lpoacted outside the US but it could be worth a shot!

Dagny-The way I see it is if you've cleaned up your finances that took a lot of hard work and this is just the final step! A few calls would be worth it.

Bob-That's true, but it could still be successful! All depending on the companies policies and who's on the other line :)

Hi Whitney. Our motto in Real Estate is "It never hurts to ask."  All they can do is say - Yes, No or Maybe (Which is a counter offer)
