Debbie's Quick Fixes- How to fix dents in your front door refresher course.

This is my favorite Debbie Quick Fixes post. Do you have one of those insulated front doors that is made of metal? If you have a home in Clarksville TN, chances are that your metal door has dings and dents that are distracting from the appearance of the door. Especially sellers that are getting their homes ready for market will want those buyers approaching their home to see a nice front entrance and pretty front door. There is no need to buy a new door when you can have your old door looking like new in no time at all.

It will take about $25, a little time and effort and your front door will look fabulous. With Debbie's Quick Fixes How to fix dents in your front door, you will see how easy it is to make your metal door look like new. Debbie's Quick Fixes How to fix dents in your front door

Step one- you need to gather your supplies. You can get what you need at a local hardware or home improvement store. These are supplies you need:

  • Bondo kit (This is a brand name for a polyester resin filler that when mixed with an organic peroxide hardener, it catalyzes to turn it into a putty that sets and hardens. This product is used for repairing car bodies, too.
  • A putty knife
  • Sandpaper
  • Paint brush
  • A Quart of Exterior Paint in the color you want for your new looking front door

Take the Bondo and mix with the hardener according to the directions on the can. Then use the putty knife to scoop a small amount of the mixed resin putty and completely cover the dent. Using the putty knife smooth the putty to make it as flush as possible.

Repeat until all dents and dings are now filled. Let completely dry. Different temperatures and humidity will increase or decrease the drying time so make sure it is hardened and totally drySand the resin areas until smooth and completely level with the face of the door. Lightly sand the entire door so the paint will apply evenly. Take a slightly damp cloth and wipe the door to remove all sanding dust.

Get ready to paint. Use an old sheet or drop cloth under the front door to catch any drips. Open the door to a 45 degree angle and brace it so it will not move while you are painting. Apply the paint with long, even strokes going the same direction over the entire door. I like the brush marks to go up and down. Apply paint generously but be careful of runs in the paint. Fill the brush, refill often and stop and check your work. Smooth out runs with your paint brush while they are still wet.

Let it dry completely. Check the filled areas to make sure that they are well covered and disguised. If you can see any, you need to sand again until smooth or fill again if the dent is still visible and then re-sand when dry. Reapply another coat of paint. In some cases you may need a third coat of paint for complete coverage.

Do not close the door too soon. Wait until the paint is completely dry. Even paint that is a little tacky will cause the door to stick to the weatherstripping. This project is best started first thing in the morning so it allows ample time for paint drying and curing.

Now pat yourself on the back because you have just completed Debbie's Quick Fixes How To Fix Dents In Your Front Door and saved yourself lots of money. Your Front Door should look fabulous.
