Whether you've been in real estate for a day or a decade, we all lack some knowledge in a variety of facets of the industry.

When I became a realtor in 2005, the whole idea of selling real estate was both daunting & thrilling. On one hand I dreamt of all the money to be made, and on the other hand I barely knew how to get into the MLS!!

Going to my office the first day was very intimidating. Even as an 8 year US Marine who served in Desert Storm, I felt a little awkward. I was surrounded by veteran realtors who were on top of their game selling millions in real estate. Actually, everyone was a veteran compared to me!

However, I got up every morning & hit the ground running. I wasn't sure where I was running, but I ran nonetheless. The idea of being an independant contractor & essentially running my own business really fired me up.

After a few months I acquired a client who was interested in commercial real estate. Oh boy! Here we go! Didn't know a thing about commercial for the most part. So I referred the client to another realtor. NOT!!!

I took up the challenge. With the help of my Broker we ended up writing up an offer on a strip mall. Unfortunately it fell through due to my client not getting the interest rate he wanted on his loan. Would've been a $45,000 commission!

What a welcome to real estate that would've been, huh? My point is this...always keep in mind that you have help around you. Your Broker as well as attorneys and even another realtor with more expertise may be willing to help close the deal. Don't back down when an unfamiliar opportunity crosses your path. Take a deep breath, be resourceful, & go for it!
