First Impressions!

Many of my clients ask me about curb appeal, which is the attractiveness of the exterior of a property, as viewed from the street. I love this topic because it’s so important and you don’t have to break the bank to add instant curb appeal! Remember that when you’re selling your house, you don’t want potential buyers to drive by and keep on going.

Here are a few ideas that will add instant curb appeal to your house. All of these can be DIY, too, which means saving $!

Paint your front door, trim, and/or shutters
Painting your home is the perfect way to add polish and brightness to your home. This will freshen up your house while adding curb appeal.

Wash the windows!
Make sure the windows are sparkly clean!

Add flowers; plant a tree
During the warmer months, adding flower pots is a great way to add color! Remember that you will also have to maintain the up-keep of the flowers to actually add curb appeal. Dead flowers are an instant sign of neglect and not very welcoming! Planting a tree is a great way to add curb appeal. Make sure you consider how big the tree will get and how it will affect your house.

Replace exterior light fixtures
New light fixtures are an instant boost to curb appeal! Both style and function are important. You want your light fixtures to be stylish, but they should also adequately light up your entryway to your house and make it safer.

Put up new house numbers…or paint the existing ones!
If you have old, chipped, or faded house numbers, get some new ones or put a fresh coat of paint on your existing ones! Try to match your new house numbers with the finish that is on your exterior light fixtures. I love these Neutra house numbers – http://bit.ly/1eRJ06Y.

Swap out your mailbox
Replacing the mailbox can make your home feel upgraded. There are many sleek options available online!

Keep it neat!
Above all, keep it immaculate! Clean and sweep the driveway, clean up after your pets, store all yard equipment and children’s toys, store garbage cans where they’re not visible from the street, avoid using the front porch for storage, and find somewhere else to park extra cars, RVs, boats, trailers.
