I recently blogged (see Some Veterans Get A FREE Home) about Operation Homefront as a topic to mark Veterans Day. People asked about the program and because it does relate to our field I thought it would be useful for those who are interested to have more information about it. I'll share a link to the primary website at the bottom of this brief blog.
Operation Homefront states that their mission is "to help our warriors and their families realize their own American dreams". One of the biggest dreams is home ownership, a dream that is often out-of-reach for our veterans. This organization makes home ownership possible for some veterans through their Homes on the Homefront program.
How does it work? Operation Homefront receives donations of bank-owned homes from various partners in their program. They also receive monetary donations from the public and other sources. This provides the funds needed, if any, to do what's necessary to get the property in good condition and help a lucky veteran realize the dream of home ownership.
What lenders and companies donate the homes? On their website Homes on the Homefront currently credits Chase, Wells Fargo, Bank of America, and Meritage Homes as partners in these home donations. But there may be more companies participating; it would be nice to see many more join the ranks!
