Nov. 26 -"Three years ago today, the Gopher football team wrapped up Jerry Kill's first season as head coach with a 27-7 win over Illinois. Minnesota blew the game open with 20 second-quarter points including a touchdown run and pass from MarQueis Gray. Gray added another touchdown run in the third quarter. Following the game, Kill addressed his seniors in the locker room: "Seniors, you've moved this program forward. Hey, this may be the moment. This may lead us right into great things". Three years later, Minnesota is headed to its third straight bowl game and this weekend's opportunity to win the Big Ten West Division at Wisconsin."
1967 - 47 Years Ago - Home for the Holidays
44 year ago today, the Gopher football team clinched a share of its last Big Ten title with a 21-14 win over Wisconsin at Memorial Stadium. On the first play of the game, Ed Duren recovered a Badger fumble at the 29 yard line. Dick Peterson punched it in from two yards out and Minnesota had an early 7-0 lead. Leading 7-6 in the third quarter, the Gophers pulled away with a pair of Curtis Wilson one-yard scores. Wisconsin cut the lead to seven early in the fourth quarter, but the Gopher defense stepped up with a pair of interceptions to secure the win. The game featured a couple of near-brawls, including one that came dangerously close to including fans. Minnesota handed the Badgers their first winless season since 1889.
