When do you hold and when do you fold your blog comments?

By

This ought to be an interesting discussion! When I comment on someones blog that is a day old it quite often is not commented back on. Some people don't comment back at all. When I was new I didn't for awhile as I did not understand the system.

When someone gets a zillion responses and they are busy, a blanket response is all that is possible.

I have been guilty of not responding back on old blogs of mine. Lately I have been "following" more and have gained quite a few more "followers" this last few weeks. Sometimes I think they are looking for a blog of mine to respond to. This last month or so my blog well has been dry and not much new.

This brings us back to the question, When do fold and move on as for as re commenting on your blogs?

Good question Rob. It is a matter of time. When business is booming or crazy trying to keep it on track then intentions may be to comment or respond but by the time you actually can get around to it, more comments or posts have been added and it is not possible. At least for me it is not. So the blanket response is the best I can do at times. I do read the comments and try to go over and leave a comment. It just doesn't work out all the time.

Interesting blog Rob. Active Rain is time consuming and give and take. If you want to be a part and fit in we all have to share with one another but you also have business to attend too. It's a balance.

Rob D. Shepherd - I cut down on my blogging last year but not my commenting. But that left my followers frustrated, I think, because there was nothing new to comment back on. This year I plan to put out at least 3 or 4 a week, maybe I'll get back to a daily one. We'll see. One thing is for sure, my clients have to come first as is my one-on-one marketing which has given me pretty much all my business. I know my blogs have given me calls, but I can't point my finger on an actual sale from AR. And that's the honest truth.

Hello Rob,

As Noah Seidenberg mentions, it is a fine balancing act some days.  And with Hella M. Rothwell, Broker/Realtor® comment, when you want to comment back on someone to reciprocate theirs on yours, it's difficult when there are no current posts.

I try to comment on every comment I receive.  But, some days, I have to do a catch-all blanket response to at least let my fellow Rainers know I read and appreciated theirs.

I usually find that if a blog is well written and provides interesting information I am more apt to comment. Also, if I can get through the entire blog. I personally like blogs that have bulleted or numbered sections because they are easier to look through and decide if I want to read the entire blog. Best wishes!

If I'm fortunate enough to get a featured post, I'll comment for a couple of days up to around 50 or 60 comments, after that it's just too time consuming. In fact, it's all a function of time on AR. I love it, but it can eat up your day if  you're not disciplined!

Good morning Rob,

Good topic and one that most rainers..like Debbie Reynolds , Noah Seidenberg and Lisa Von Domek have already said..it's a balancing act with business and commenting. I try and respond to each comment (that is my goal) but sometimes have to go with a blanket response to let people know I have read their comments! I try and comment on a variety of rainers post and often feel that is most important to let them know I'm reading their posts!

I do my best to reciprocate every comment I receive. If I go to a blog and there is nothing recent, I will take a minute to search for an older post to comment on. Sometimes there just isn't anything and that's ok. We all understand you can't reciprocate if we haven't supplied you with anything to comment on!

I am trying to be more responsive. There was a  time when I put the entire blog on the back burner but I'm trying to be mindful to comment to each individual who took the time to comment. Of course, as you said, it's always better for our commenters if they have something fresh to see from us.

The featured posts will kill you on the comments.... I usually try to leave a blanket comment and just comment on the more interesting responses.

I read all my comments on my cell phone but it is too hard to respond there. So I have to wait to come home and sometimes there is no time to comment after that.
