Why do Real Estate agents continue to be blamed for the past market downfall?

By
Industry Observer

Several of the men I am working construction with frowned about me when I told them I am a licensed Real Estate agent.

They were telling me about their homes that they had lost into foreclosure back in California around 2008 and 2009.

They proceeded to tell me that agents where selling homes knowing that the market was going to crash. I stood my ground and tried to explain that nobody really knew the market was going to crash before it was too late.

It can be quite frustrating and discouraging when home owners continue to blame the Real Estate brokers & agents for their loss.

The Real Esate agents never financed the home buyers when they were purchasing homes. And if for any reason these home buyers were purchasing homes knowing they would have troubles making ends meet with their mortgage payments, then why did they purchase?

Some of these home buyers in California think that Real Estate agents are crooked and evil, and if that isn't a bunch of "bull crap" ;o/

Hate to break the news but it was not realtors who put the pen in your hand and told you to take on larger mortgages than you could afford.

At some point, we all have to be grown up enough to admit we made mistakes and live up to them and move on.

What you focus on expands.  if you focus on the past you will live in the past.  If you focus on the future, you can have a new one.

I've heard some blame banks, some blame government and some blame agents... I don't think any one sect is to blame, but I do think lots of fraud with a bad few in each industry contributed.

VB, it's human nature to blame some one else.  And, we are easy targets.

Good morning Bob,

Now hopefully some will look at the signs and be able to know; one way or another history repeats itself.

Make yourself a great day.

VB - I don't think it it right to blame someone else for losing their home to foreclosure. At the same time, I know of some agents who did everything they could do to sell a home, even if they knew the buyer couldn't afford it. Still not the agents fault in the end, but they didn't help matters.

Don take it personally VB. I have heard those same stories on our end that somehow its the fault of a broker or banker but no it couldnt be the people on Walls Street that created the actual flow of the capital and the relaxed to non existent guidelines that truly caused the bubble to burst with thousand and thousands of loans that wouldnt ever repay and that is what caused the collapse it has nothing to do with agents or anything else
