April’s Animal Attraction | Lion-tailed Macaque
Stitch is a 19-year-old lion-tailed macaque, and the most dominant of the four females at the Detroit Zoo. She is assertive and always gets first choice of food, according to the animal care staff. Her favorites include bananas, avocados, raisins and crickets – the latter of which she is very adept at catching. Like other lion-tailed macaques – who spend most of their time up in the forest canopy – Stitch can usually be seen on the highest branch she can find. She will often forage for food and store it in the pouches of her cheeks to eat high up in the branches. The lion-tailed macaques can been found in the Asian Forest, just west of tigers.
the detroit zoo is hosting a safari camp this summer. Go online and register now! its inexpensive and well worth the memories to be made!
