Hicks Elementary School opened its doors on August 15, 1996 to almost 1000 learners. The school was named to Howard J. Hicks, a World War II veteran. Hicks Elementary was designed to utilize technology as one of the primary tools for learning, an integrated computer network and a video delivery system enrich the academic programs of all students. In 2014, the student/teacher ratio is 13.9, which is the 4th best among 24 elementary schools in the Alief ISD. The school currently serves around 750 students in grades PK-04 and employs 53 full time teachers who have been with the school for an average of 10 years. The special education division has 5 assistant teachers and employs 12 education aids.
