What's Silicon Slopes?

By
Real Estate Agent with Chuck Willman 9334967-SA00

There is a place in America that received nearly $1 billion in investor funding last year.

It's home to more than 4,300 technology companies.

it's within hours of 14 world class ski resorts, five national parks and seven national monuments.

This is Utah's tech mecca- where nearly one in ten people work in the industry.

Are you looking for a job here? There are plenty (unemployment is among the lowest in the nation and average wage in this sector among the highest).

Are you looking for a poster? Get yours here. SiliconSlopesPoster

Looking for a house? This isn't New York ($1,368/sq ft), or San Francisco ($771/sq ft) or Boston ($463 sq/ft). It's Utah where homes can be purchased for around $138 sq/ft and utilities are among the lowest in the nation and home sizes are also among the highest. Oops- they are the highest: Largest Homes in America are in Provo/Orem Utah.

And I can help you buy one: www.UtahHomes.me

Julie Morales the word has been getting out, at first slowly, but now it's becoming known among tech groups that have 1) sought to cut costs of operating in expensive cities and 2) find highly qualified employees and 3) rub shoulders with those who offer complimentary services.

Chuck Willman - I completely agree with that notion. Utah is a low tax, low regulated state that sounds like it is up and coming for many businesses. I hope you are the new found Utahans' first choice when they decide to relocate, they will be in good hands!

Julie Morales It's so nice when someone else shares in the same dream for me. Yes, I do wanna be the relocator's first choice- and I definitely know who to refer people too in Katy (this from a three-times-previously Texan).

Great info-graphic of the silicon slopes. Be careful what you wish for though! I'm sure all the people in Austin, TX would love to have their nice, quaint little city back now that it's over-run with people.

Nicole Doty - Gilbert Real Estate Expert I know, right?

I used to live near Austin. It was a charming college town with good live music and more hills than other Texas destinations. Now, well... it has become so popular. They're doing their best to try to fight the loss of identity- or maintain it but it's not easy. I hardly recognized the place the last time I visited. My how it has grown.

This area on the other hand has lots of open spaces still; to put it in perspective- the population of the Silicon Slopes area is roughtly equivalent to the city of Phoenix. Yet it stretches across a path that is just over an hour's drive from north to south.

Oddly enough- if feels like your town (my old stomping grounds) but with taller hills and lower temperatures. I know a few people who winter there and summer here. It's a pretty cool plan.

I believe I've told you this before but I've been in Utah twice to pick up a prisoner in my former profession.  It is a beautiful state, I want to go back and see some more of it..
