Berna from the Tooele office posted this last week w/ the help of the KCM crew. "homeownership as an investment in Tooele UT". I didn't think much about the article until I talked with a potential buyer yesterday.
The buyer had a different take on things and while the priorities were different, the concept was the same.
An investment can mean more than just money. And when it comes to investing in your next house the cash incentive should probably rank way down the list.
It should for sure be behind:
- Where the kids go to school?,
- What is the drive time to and from work, ?
- Do I like the neighbors and the neighborhood.?
- Are the things our family likes to do most in close proximity?
In other words, home ownership is, and should be about an investment in lifestyle.

Four recent news articles confirmed that most Americans still see real estate as a great long term investment. The Gallup organization polled the American people and discovered that they believe that real estate is a better long term investment than stocks/mutual funds, gold, savings or bonds.
