Daily Niblet …

When my Mother or Grandmother would make biscuits the first thing that came out of the kitchen cabinet was a sifter. You remember, with the crank handle on the side and the distinct noise it made when you turn that handle. Put in a little flour turn the crank and presto fine, smooth flour, and left in the top clumps, hulls, and possibly an insect or two, this all went in the trash. They told me this had to be done not only to remove the hulls, clumps, and insects, it also added air that made for fluffier, better tasting baked goods.

What if every morning we put our thoughts in the sifter and turned that crank, leaving the bitterness , anger and resentment for the trash. Maybe it would it be easier to "rise" and deliver a better "tasting day". After all

"who likes flat biscuits?" Happy Baking!!!!

Hello John McCormack

I remember those sifters. I also agree with you about sifting our thoughts for as we think in our hearts, so we are. Before any action takes place a thought must be conceived.

Well said John, there are far too many negative comments here in the rain. For me, I love spreading happiness, not doom and gloom. It is why i love wishing everyone a great day as my close. Good to hear you had fun on the 4th. It was a tale of 2 days with heavy work in the am and boating in the afternoon for me.

Hi Debbie and John -- not sure how I missed this post(hmm, I wonder if it could be the continuing difficulty of finding people I follow?) but this is a great recipe to start any day.

Grat idea! We need to create mental sifters so we can just throw out all the bitter clumps... and bugs!

My Mom always used a sifter, and I still do have one. But I don't remember sifting out any bugs.

I do remember a lady telling me about a house she lived in that had flour and sugar bins built in to the cabinets in the kitchen. She said they were handy, but it was annoying having to pick the mouse dirt out before using the flour and sugar.

John/Debbie, I would be turning that crank everyday to spit all the things we don't need in your lives into the trash.

John, I love this clever comparison. I remember my grandmother's sifter and never thought about it catching tiny bugs.

I like backing more than cooking. I like the smell of any backed food and it seems like it tastes better from the oven.

John, I try to look at each day with as a new opportunity and leave the crumbs of the day before in the past...if you have an extra "thought sifter" hanging around...I can use one every now and then.
