Fraud and Scams That Target Teeneagers to Elderly - Agent Resource

By

I'm sure we've all seen many of these scams in one form or another. I just receieved another email from an aquaintence that I had never met. She was robbed in another country and had all of her money and credit cards stolen. She needed me to send her money, and she would pay me back when she got back to the US. I actually got two of those scam emails this week.

I deleted the email of course, but there are many scams that target young people and seniors, and many seniors are likely to fall for a variety of scams.

Agents are in a good position to warn seniors because we meet them on a continual basis, and help them buy and sell properties. And it's not just clients and customers that need to be warned about these scams, many times it's our own relatives who are sending money to unknown people and businesses, subscribing to multiple magazines, revealing checking and credit card account info over the phone to strangers, etc.

The following link should be of interest becasue it is run by the fbi, and contains info on many of the scams we need to be aware of. It also contains many additional links that will benefit kids and adults. The more people that are made aware of these scams, the less likely they will be to fall for them.

Some of these scammers need to be put in jail, especially the ones that target kids and the elderly.

I've always wondered if the claim/statement that seniors are more likely to fall for these scams than others.

Not so in my opinion.

I believe that the stereotype of the lonely senior falling for scams is a myth.

#1- Hi Lenn, seniors may not fall for them as much anymore, but they are still common targets.

Good morning Jeff. Scammers target seniors for good reason, many are easy prey, not matter how much efforts are made to protect them.

I do not even think, I just delete those emails. If someone I knew were in trouble, they would call. Finding a computer to send mass emails would be their least priority.
