Tucked away amid sprawling neighborhoods and shopping centers in south Charlotte are beautiful greenways and nature viewing trails. One might even be in your own backyard!
These three greenways connect to form a 5.8 mile horseshoe shaped trail that runs through south Charlotte and passes under Interstate 485. Trail surfaces range from asphalt, gravel, and boardwalk where you can walk, ride your bicycle, run, or walk your four legged friend (note: all animals must be leashed).
The greenways are known for sitings of the Southern Skipperling butterfly (a rare and beautiful bright orange butterfly), Blue Herons (the County park system's first documented Great Blue Heron rookery is here), the American Redstart warbler bird, and the Scarlet Tanager bird. Listen carefully and you just might hear the latter two's melodious singing as you stroll along the greenways.
Each greenway has a parking area and several neighborhood entrances. To find the one most convenient to you, click on the image below for a printable map.
