HHI + Cars + Luxury = 2015 Concours
One of the most eagerly awaited events of the winter season begins this weekend. Its formal, fancy name is The Hilton Head Island Motoring Festival and Concours d'Elegance!
Here's an overview of the prime events!
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 23RD THROUGH SUNDAY, OCTOBER 25, 2015 - Savannah, Georgia the Savannah Speed Classic. this is the place to hear the whine of the engines as they tear around a track over on Hutchinson Island across the river from downtown Savannah. If you have the need for speed' and love to watch beautiful cars and their drivers navigate hairpin turns!
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 30, 7PM - 10PM This year, the festival has added a special function; the Flights of Fancy Aeroport Gala. Celebrating 'the history and future of aviation' it benefits the festival's charitable fund "Driving Young America." This event will be held at the Hilton Head Island airport and will feature vintage and new aircraft as well as cars whose designs are modeled after aircraft.
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 31, 9AM - 4PM Car Club Showcase, Port Royal Golf Club, Hilton Head Island, SC. Nineteen car clubs participate with this portion of the Motoring Festival - each one bringing 15-20 cars which are exhibited on the
1st and 18th fairways of the golf club. You'll have plenty of time and opportunity to marvel at the beauty and speak directly with the owners. From the Atlanta Classic Thunderbird Club to the Carolina Dreamers, Corvettes of Hilton Head, Porsche Clubs, Ferrari Clubs, and this year, the Volvo Club of America, you can have your pick and choose of which beauties to gawk at - just DON"T touch.
Finally, the piece de resistance -
SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 1ST, 9AM - 4PM the Concours d'Elegance - Port Royal Golf Club, Hilton Head Island, SC. This to me is what it's all about, the elegance of design that was, and is perfection in the automative industry. There are classes that these cars are placed in each with their own specific requirements of condition, maintenance, and like fine art, provenance. The gleaming chrome, the sleek lines, the leather, the engine compartments that are immaculate, all speak to the love that has been bestowed on these masterpieces.
As if these highlighted events aren't enough, there are plenty of other things to do for this whole week! Study which of the events - or go to them all - and then you can easily purchase your tickets online.
Be sure to watch for some of the ladies who dress up in period costume to match the era for particular cars; feel free to chat with the car owners, they are justifiably proud and anxious to share their experience and stories!
