In today's economy, you might see some areas are slowing down, but not Cookeville, Tennessee.  Our economy is thriving still and our Real Estate industry this spring is busier than ever.  Cookeville is an extremely desirable place to live, as we are nestled between of two great cities; Nashville and Knoxville. Our economic growth is at a steady rate with some news of expansion in our near future:

The proposed Mine Lick Creek Interchange at Interstate 40 project, extends from I-40 to US 70N (US 26) in Putnam County, Tennessee approximately 0.9 miles west of Cookeville.

Project Background

  • The proposed route would begin with a Mine Lick Creek Road Interchange on I-40 and extend north and east, connecting with US 70N (SR 24) approximately 0.89 miles west of the Cookeville City Limits.
  • Alternative A would begin at a proposed interchange with I-40, approximately 2.82 miles west of the existing I-40/SR 135 interchange and is 2.87 miles in length tying into US 70N.
  • Alternative B would also begin with an I-40 interchange, located approximately 0.71 miles west of the existing Mine Lick Creek Road Bridge over I-40 and is 3.47 miles in length tying into US 70N.

Purpose of and Need for the Project

  • Local and Regional Planning - The proposed project conforms to local and regional planning efforts. The project is included in the City of Cookeville Major Thoroughfare Plan, as adopted by the Cookeville Planning Commission and City Council in 2000, and the Comprehensive Future Land Use Plan.
  • Logical Termini - Logical termini are defined as the rational end points for a transportation project and for a review of environmental impacts. The termini for this project will provide complementary and logical linkage to the existing roadways (I-40 and US 70N) in the area.

Level of Service - The addition of the proposed route would reduce traffic volumes on existing roadways within the project area.

Hey Al,

As a new neighbor to the Mine Lick Creek Road area on Reeser Lane....does this devalue my home and property or is there the potential to add to it since this project road is to be such an amenity to the area..??

This kind of project is never really talked with high favor amongst neighboring families...I have never agreed with eminent domain...other than property being absorbed, is there the potential for home displacement..??

 Thanks, Wayne
