Falmouth Christmas Parade - Largest in Southern New England

The 52nd annual Falmouth Christmas Parade is this Sunday, December 6. There is a new starting place this year.  Because of road construction, the parade will begin at the intersection of Dillingham Avenue and Davis Straits. All the staging and lining up will take place on Dillingham Ave, "behind" the Gus Canty building and north of the football/baseball field. Beginning at noon the parade will begin turning onto Davis Straits/Main St. and travel westerly to Main Street, ending up once again at the Village Green.

This is the annual Falmouth Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade.  Parking downtown on Main Street will be stopped on Dec. 6 beginning at 8 a.m. That parking ban will continue until the parade concludes at approximately 2:30 pm.

Dillingham Avenue will be completely closed to traffic from 8 a.m. until approximately 1:30 pm. Parade staging will begin at 8:30 am on Dillingham Avenue by entering from Gifford Street only. Parade participants are requested to be at the Gus Canty Recreation Center, which is at 790 Main St. 02540, between 8:30-10:30 am. People in the parade will then walk around the GC Rec Center and across the fields to Dillingham Avenue. Once at Dillingham Avenue organizers will direct participants where to find their place in the parade order.

The parking lot at the Gus Canty Recreation Center will be reserved primarily for buses. There will be parking available for parade participants at the Island Queen lot on Scranton Avenue. The Island Queen lot will be for parade participants only.  Please carpool.

Children who are in the parade will be allowed to wait inside the Gus Canty Recreation Center IF they are accompanied by an adult.  Parade floats and moving vehicles need to start lining up on Dillingham Avenue between 8:30-10:30 am. Remember, Dillingham will only be accessible from Gifford Street.  (The scheduled order of the 2015 Falmouth Christmas Parade for floats and participants will be listed in the next blog, today.)

Organizers will direct floats and moving vehicles to their place in the parade order from the Gifford Street entrance onto Dillingham Ave. There will be no entry onto Dillingham Avenue from Davis Straits. All parade participants must enter from Gifford Street.

Beginning at 11:30 am, Davis Straits between the traffic lights at Jones Road and Friendly’s Restaurant, and Main Street from Friendly’s Restaurant to the Village Green, will be closed to traffic until the parade concludes. Parade participants and the general public are alerted that severe weather conditions sometimes affect the start time or cause event postponement.

Thank you. And the parade is a nice event, too. It helps Falmouth "get rankings" as one of the best places to live in Massachusetts.
