I started posting a daily gratitude at the beginning of November 2015. Every day, usually in the morning before I got out of bed, I would post on Facebook something that I was grateful for that day. It was short and sweet. At first, I thought that I would just do it for the month of November. But then it became a habit and I kept going. Now on the 62nd day of a daily gratitude and there are "friends" on Facebook sending me messages or commenting on my posts thanking me for being an inspiration and how they look forward to my positive messages every day. So not only is it helpful for me to focus on all the things that I am thankful for, but it is helping others to consider how much they have in their life as well.
What started out as a simple November challenge has become to one of the things that I look forward to every day. At first I thought that it would be difficult to always think of something, but as the days have gone by, the opposite has been true. Every day I hear about someone else's struggle or I see it in the news and I realize that I have many things that are better than what most people have. The happiest people do not have everything, but they make the most of everything that they have. Some of the "poorest" people I know still have reason to give thanks and share a smile. These things are free. And every day, I wake up and focus on being happy. Because no one can steal your joy! Even if you don't post it for the world to see, I highly recommend taking a few moments every day and writing in a gratitude journal. My focus on the great and simple things around me has been very humbling. I am truly grateful for all of the opportunities that I have been afforded in my life and my focus is to pay it forward.
Start a new habit in 2016! I will be continuing the journey myself.
Happy New Year 2016
Karen
