Countess Elizabeth
Thanks for stopping by and taking time out of your day to read my post. My intent is to put a smile on your face. Hopefully you’ll go away with some information you may have forgotten about or did not know. Now sit back and enjoy the post for the day.
If you are not into blood and gore just move on because this one is not for the faint of heart.. Countess Elizabeth was born in Nyirbator, Hungary in 1560 to George and Anna. She was born into a wealthy family as her mother’s cousin was King of the Polish-Lithuania Commonwealth. She learned Latin, German and Greek but was showered with wealth, education and a stellar social position. She was engaged at 10 and married at 14 when she moved to Nadasdy Castle in Sarvar. Her husband was away fighting wars, however there were three children born of the wedlock. Her husband died at age 48 after 29 years of marriage.
Between 1602-1604 accusations were made to the Hungarian authorities about some alleged crimes being committed at the castle. The authorities started an investigation in 1610 and found that indeed Countess Elizabeth had been involved in some cases shall we say were questionable. It was reported that she would abduct local girls and torture them in such in-humane ways, that it would shock us even today. All told she was responsible for around 80 deaths of innocent young females. Some of her techniques were to jam pins and needles under the fingernails of her victims, stripping them and covering them in honey to be attacked by bees and ants. She was also reported to have had one of her victims cook her own flesh and then eat it. Sick, very sick. There were other things she did but if you want to read about those look her up. BTW she is better known as Countess Elizabeth Barthory and the castle, why it is now in Transylvania. So the real Dracula may have been a woman not a man.
