You're probably familiar with ‘walking tours’ or ‘bus tours’ or even ‘wine tours.’ Well, did you know that we have ‘food tours’ right here in Boca Raton and in Delray Beach? The concept of ‘tours’ has taken a turn, no pun intended, to all things culinary.
Savor Our City Culinary Tours was started in 2009. The idea is to go on a historical walking tour of a local city and experience the local culture and food with area experts. The founder, Denise Righetti, started to take locals and visitors around Boca Raton restaurants to what she calls “culinary gems” throughout the city.
According to Righetti’s bio, she has found her passion for local customs and culinary experiences of places she visited after working on the Royal Caribbean Cruise lines. She has over 20 years of experience in the hospitality industry and she is also a second generation Floridian, so you are bound to have a good time.
Tours are scheduled in advance and are scattered throughout the year. They involve 3 hours of “culinary adventure” where you will be tasting food from local coffee shops, wine bars, bistros and fine dining, all within walking distance. For $65 you and your group can enjoy a tasting of area delights that you may not be aware of.
(By the way, this is probably not a child-friendly event, just because young stomachs may not enjoy the culinary fare).
These tours encourage patrons with more experienced pallets not only because of the food selection but because of the walking and lingering that will take placed at each establishment (approximately 20 minutes or so at each tasting).
The next Culinary Tour will take place this coming Saturday, March 19th (next tour April 16th) from 11AM to 2PM. The Savor Downtown Boca tour will include visits to 5 or 6 restaurants. Walks between each venue are relatively short. Savor Our City may include food ranging from Authentic Bavarian Cuisine, Beef Bourguignon, Crepes, Caviar, Greek Gyros, Homemade Pasta, Japanese BBQ, Maryland Style Crab Cakes, Sushi, Tacos to Wine & Cheese.
Delray Beach will also be hosting a Savor Our City the following Saturday, March 26th, on Atlantic Avenue. The tasting will include American, Asian, French, Italian, Mediterranean, and Mexican cuisine.
