Blog Block...Real Or Imaginary???

By
Title Insurance with Patriot Land Transfer, Inc.

I've been reading a lot of posts lately that seem to express that many bloggers, at least here on Active Rain, are reaching a certain level of 'blog block'...

At first, I thought it was a regular 'Monday Morning' phenomenon...you know, a 'blue Monday' kind of thing...but then when it spilled over into Tuesday, I began to think that maybe there was something more to it!!!

I thought about it for an 'Active Rain' minute...which is about 3 or 4 seconds...and decided to post some suggestions!!! First, lets look at some facts!

Bryant Tutas first expressed this problem in a post of his which focused on the key word of the post...CONSTIPATION...that's the term Bryant chose to illustrate 'blog block' in his own words...for that effort, Bryant got a feature which makes me believe my assertion that somehow Bryant has access to the Active Rain 'feature button'...kinda like the big red 'EASY' button in the Staples ads!!!

Patricia Kennedy, that magnanimous red haired realtor from D.C., and quite a flashy writer here on AR, expressed a kind of 'lethargic' feeling as well, which I construed as her version of 'blog block'...indicating that maybe Bryant's 'constipation' was contagious and spreading throughout Active Rain Land!!! Can a 'virus' spread in a 'virtual environment'???

That's a rhetorical question, please don't focus on it or its answer!!!

So what is my solution for any of you out there in Active Rain Land that are experiencing this same 'virus' or phenomenon we call 'blog block'?

IMAGINATION...use your imagination...your childhood gift that probably lies dormant much of the time...reenergize it...rejuvenate it...rekindle the fire of your imagination...that's where the 'kernels' of good posts lie!!!

Everyone has an imagination...some underuse it...some may abuse it...some ignore it...some think it 'childish'...it's child-like, but not 'child...ish'!!! Use it!!! Or, maybe lose it!!!

Fran, My constipation seems to be much better now. In this business it usually only takes a few phone calls from a consumer or my peers to have plenty of blog fodder for the week. Last week was just a little slow :) Now let me see if I can find that feature button and help a brother out.

Fran, if "constipation" is the analogy for blog block, what's the analogy for when blogging flows??

I sometimes think that I've finally run out of blog topics - and then I look around, think about something from my or my friends' past, or something that happened to me recently, and then I have a new blog topic. There's always something to blog about. Always.

When I come across something online that I think could be inspiration for a blog, I save it as a favorite in a file called blog ideas.  More than once, I've pulled something out of there for a post. Sometimes I check the website for the public school system - they usually have some news posted that I can use for inspiration.  If not them, another local government website will have something.  And last, but not least, I get ideas from pictures.  Your background gives me about 5-6 different blog ideas.

Fran, I have seen a lot of the Blog Blockage taking place along here!  What is up with that?  I have so many things to write on almost daily!  My problem is lack of time!

Fran, I must confess that I am an exception to this phenomenon. I NEVER have bloggers block. I attribute it either a) to a vivid imagination or b) I was always one of those kids that would never shut up : ) Don't know if this talent (curse) is good or not, but it is a problem I have never had.

Gary,

Funny thing...I was never a great writer, nor was I fond of writing...but I find blogging brings out the 'best' in me...I'm never at a loss for words when sitting at my computer!!! Thanks,   Fran

My wife sometimes hates the fact that everything I do, see or hear becomes a blog. She is worried one day that she maybe the focus of one of her blogs more than just the anniversary post.

Just repeat after me, "I will take no candid photos of my wife to place on my blog"! Now show this to her, and you should be OK!!! LOL Thanks,   Fran
