A Lesson From The Game Hide N Seek

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty 0575737

Hide and SeekComing out of the election cycle where there was not only so much vitriol between the two major candidates personally and on their policies, but between their followers on social media it made me think of the children's game hide and seek. The objective of whomever is IT is to find the others out in the field hiding is a lesson we can take, particularly in NOT for business purposes talking at length or at all with religion or politics. That lesson is one of

    INVISIBILITY.

Not to dampen anyone's freedom of speech, or personal choice, or principles, but we could tone it down or there is a time and place to express our views particularly when someone could totally believe the opposite to you, and this discussion has nothing to do with business. Even toning things down will usually escalate an argument, so the keeping things to yourself FOR BUSINESS, is probably a wise approach.

So many attacks back and forth I saw this year on Facebook, and people unfriending each other. I do hope people can share their views one on one in private and not such a public display.

Or as they say as you get older you do things in public, and you don't care. Just remember, business is not the right place.

I just stayed out of the fray and set up my FB timeline so that no one can post anything or tag me without my seeing and approving it first.  No good can come of a public display of disrespect or ignorance.

great post- I was unfriended by an agent that I used to work with because I suggested he take the high road and not get into how many people he could unfriend in a given day- Oh well - I guess we weren't really friends after all

And the process is...... go to the polls......vote.....accept the outcome graciously and if you don't like the outcome, work responsively to change the results of the next election.  I am amazed at the friends and family postings on FB.  Just not commenting hoping some people grow up.

Silence is golden! I stopped a long time ago listening to news. Iwant to maintain my own enthusiasm for life and not have it affected by what is going on that I have no personal control over. I skim certain news channels just in case there may be a disaster I need to know about, but I avoid editorials. I have my beliefs and I act upon them. After that it is a democracy. If I see bullying, racism, hatred, mistreatment of others etc. I will speak up, because these only thrive when good people keep silent.

I can understand those who make exceptions for the sake of money but I am not one of those agents. I refuse to sacrifice my principles of fighting intolerance in exchange for increasing my bank account. But that's me. We are all different.

Like Nick & Trudy Vandekar I will speak out in favor of progressive values, especially if I see injustice, racism, bigotry, misogony and discrimination; to do otherwise is unthinkable. Money is not everything.

The RIGHT CHARLOTTE REALTOR!

I have clients who follow me on social networks - in fact, much of my sphere does - so, it was in my best interest not to discuss my feelings on my social sites.  In fact, I had a couple of clients claim that they saw other agents committing 'business suicide' just to post their opinions publicly.  My sphere is split right down the middle so, I was not about to alienate any of them - I love them all, regardless of their political views!

Sadly, most of it was in response to horrific media coverage that included false information (videos that were not shown in their entirety, showing only a small portion to make their audience believe that one of the candidates was not what he/she truly is, etc.).  The sad part about the misinformation is that information is what the public believed was really said!

Just as we do with our religion, silence publicly, is the best practice.  There's a reason we were trained not to speak of religion or politics with our clients!  Speak with those in private all you want, but not publicly!  (And I did a LOT of private sharing!!  LOL)

Dear Gary,

A heated political debate can be a lot of fun in person. You usually learn things, that help you make up your mind. However, I prefer to knock heads with people, I can be friends with afterwards, meaning we disagree on a particular point, but not on our love for each other or our neighbors & country.

Unfortunately, most political comments are emotional and aren't factual but derived from sound bites or other false information.

There are 3 types of people I meet, the informed, uninformed and misinformed. I can debate the informed, educate the uninformed and struggle with the misinformed until I discover they not only are misinformed but unwilling to accept the truth or facts.

Now, I can remain cordial and friendly or dismiss them from my sphere of aquaintences, so, it depends on the circumstances and I'm very comfortable regardless of my actions or any adverse effects to my business. Isn't it great to enjoy our freedom to live in the USA?

Congratulations on your feature.

It does seem that some people have turned their personal commentaries into what is going on into a game. I suppose the desire to be right or make the other side understand brings out our competitive spirit. Too much time playing that game can affect their livelihoods if they are not careful.
