Another tech tip to improve your site...it's so simple
This is such a simple tweak! I promise you can do it.
These days, we keep reading about the importance of the user experience on your site (or blog). If it's poor, they are likely to get frustrated and leave. If it's great, they are more likely to stay on site longer, read further and read more articles...and of course, they are more likely to contact you.
In general, if they stay on your site longer, they are more satisfied w/ your content, and google measures this...based on time on page/time on site and number of pages viewed. If they are staying on your site, google is likely to rank you higher. And, even more important than that, if they read more, they are much more likely to contact you and be a great customer. I definitely find this to be true.
So this is definitely something to shoot for.
So what did I do today to help in that pursuit? It's so simple...and even the non-techy folks can do this...
I made the font LARGER!
I had actually done this a couple of years ago, and I believe it makes a huge difference. I know many of us experience it here on Active Rain. (often if the font is too small, I will click off it and/or won't comment and this especially happens when I'm tired and/or I've been online a lot for the day.
I was reading about this in one of Neil Patel's recent blog and how this can really help, and it especially helps with long posts. I was reading his blog on NeilPatel.com...and it's much larger. Wow what a difference. So much easier and more pleasant to read.
So, I took mine up a notch and made the font even larger.
Now, I have a lot of articles...and I'm very busy. So, I just did for my top 10 articles (and my About me page). This takes care of 58% of my clicks. One day this summer, I probably do the next 5 or 10. And, then in the colder months, I may finish up. While I was at it, I made a few other tweeks including adding a bit more white space and I added a paragraph in 2 of them. (Keeping your top articles fresh can help w/ google too...Neil recommends doing this every 3 months on your top articles. I do this every once in a while but it may be more like every 6-12 months for me.
You can do this too!
1. Make a concerted effort to make your new blog posts larger. On here, I generally use 14 pt. I don't know the size of the one on my wordpress site.
2. Look at your top 10 (or top 5) blog posts on your site or on here (use the stats feature) and just go back and make them larger. If you have time, see if you can do anything else to make them a bit stronger, too.
So, let's make our potential customers happy. Are you with me?
