Chances are that most new arrivals in the Tallahassee, FL, metro area already have a Florida driver’s license. Why is that? The top 10 metros that supply new residents to Tallahassee are all in the Sunshine State, with the Miami-Fort Lauderdale area holding the No. 1 spot, followed by Tampa-St. Petersburg, Jacksonville and Orlando.

Yet Tallahassee does draw its fair share of out-of-staters. And you don’t have to go terribly far to locate the top out-of-state metro for sending new residents to Tallahassee.

A LawnStarter analysis of U.S. Census Bureau data reveals that from 2010 to 2014, the Atlanta, GA, metro area provided an estimated 518 new residents per year to Tallahassee -- the most of any metro outside Florida. However, Tallahassee annually lost an estimated 953 residents to Atlanta during the same five-year period.

The result: The Tallahassee area -- consisting of Gadsden, Jefferson, Leon and Wakulla counties -- had a yearly 435-resident deficit with Atlanta in 2010-14.

Below, you’ll find an infographic laying out the 12 out-of-state metros sending the most new residents to Tallahassee each year, along with how many residents Tallahassee loses to the same metros.
