Reaching your goals for 2017

One step at a time

Those with prior military experience will recognize the image above. This "Hell Tower" may not seem like much but most people get a knot in their stomache when they find themselves standing at the bottom and looking up to the top. It's a great reminder of how to set goals.

Your goals must be realistic. In the illustration above, you could say, "I'm going to jump over this tower!" Is that realistic? You could jump and jump and jump and never make it past the first rung. You will eventually lose all motivation and give up. The next time you find yourself at a similar obstacle, you will start knowing you've alredy failed.

There are big goals and little goals. When you have a big obstacle, like this tower, you have to break it into smaller steps that you KNOW you can achieve. This sets you up for success, as long as you are consistent. As you successfully achieve the smaller goals, it builds your confidence and speeds you towards your larger goal.

Setting goals for 2017 is a good thing, but be realistic about them. At American West Realty we are setting small goals every week for each individual that must be completed by the end of the week. Some of these are personal goals and some are for the office as a whole. It could be creating a new form or defining a new process and putting it in writing. At the end of the year we have each completed nearly 50 improvements! Seeing our accomplishments gives us confidence in reaching the larger goals...one rung at a time!
