Some blogs are better left unwritten

Some topics are more controversial than others.

When you believe this about one of  your post, hold on for a minute.

Let that post stay in DRAFT mode for one more day.

Because, as Bryan Robertson shares in this re-post...

Some blogs are better left unwritten

Original content by Bryan Robertson CA BRE #01191946

Every once in a while I'll get a crazy idea in my head for a blog that expresses an...unpopular opinion.  Or, I'll write about something monumentally boring. It occurred to me today that there are times when a blog should just be left to never see a readers eyes.

Another side of this is the idea that we write blogs that get absolutely NO attention...and we're glad they didn't.  I wrote one of these recently.  I realized after writing the blog that I was very likely to get either a negative reaction or none.  Turns out I got one comment, that was it.  OK, fine, I'm good with that.

It's OK to write a blog, keep in in draft mode, mull it over a bit...and delete it.  You got the idea off your mind but you know it's just a blog that nobody ever needs to know about.  Well, just delete it.  You're better off actually.  If it's bad, people will let it go.  If it's controversial, it'll hurt your reputation.  Either way, if it isn't going to be "unwritten" then write it and delete it.

Just a thought for the day...

This is so true Praful!  Thanks for reblogging it. It does make it easier if you always keep the topics you write positive.

Isn't it a good idea to avoid sensitive topics when we blog, Sheri Sperry - MCNE®?

Sometimes the mouth overloads the brain and good senses. And we still go ahead and do it. Better off not said or written in a lot of cases.

I'd say you and Bryan are 110% correct in this, Praful Thakkar ... write it, but don't post it.  Probably much healthier and much better off that way ...

Praful Thakkar - There are some blogs posts that I've read here, and I can't comment because of the association with a topic that can hurt my reputation, or business.  Great choice for a re-blog, some posts should never be written or published!

Hi Praful

This was an oldie but goodie to bring back I think. Like certain emails that we might write and decide to think about, there are probably some posts that appeal to us for some reason but upon thinking about it you realize it's better left unsaid.

Praful, I tend to stay away from rants and posting when I'm pissed.  It's not good for business and I've got better things I SHOULD do instead.  Bill

Hi Praful - it is better to think and spend time on a good blog than to simply fire one out.

That's a mouthful Praful and Bryan.    I think that's a lesson many of us old school Rainers learned a long time ago. When I read this post, I did a search on several post that I had written about "draft mode" and those same posts serve as a constant reminder that sometimes it's just necessary to let my thoughts stew for a while.  Great post.
