Which do you prefer - Painted or Stained Kitchen Cabinets

By
Real Estate Agent with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices - C. Dan Joyner 21498
I am in the middle of a kitchen upgrade. Which means I have a lot of decisions to make. One of them, paint or stain my kitchen cabinets. Honestly, I think painting is easier. I actually hate to stain! But, I want to do the one that will look the best, not necessarily which one is easier.

I like painting since there are more color choices, and I really think it will hide the problems with our cabinets better. However, I am concerned with how well paint will hold up over time over staining. Would love some comments and advice from anyone that has redone their kitchen and has some experience with one or the other. Also, do you prefer dark or light colored cabinets?

Mark my vote for stained cabinets. Painted cabinets can look nice, but stained cabinets have so much more character and beauty, if done correctly. But I would bring in the professionals, unless you are a cabinet pro yourself.

Stained in newer homes. We did live in 2 70's homes in the past and we painted the cabinets, but I would prefer a dark stain.-Kasey

I prefer the painted cabinets, but unless they are factory painted, the paint will likely chip and not hold up as well as factory painted cabinets. I think you'll be better off staining yours.   :)

I would go with painted cabinets, I think that is a more updated look right now.  Home renovations are always nice when they are over, but so much work to go through.
