Chances R and Wimpy's Ask Geoffrey

Noah, there is a Restaurant on the way to Malibu on the Pacific Coast Highway and sadly they will be closing it...but that was their MO too you could eat Peanuts by the bucket full and the shell on the  floor too:)) ask Michael Jacobs  I am sure he will know the name instantly:)) now as to the video will have to do it later tonight or over the weekend, Endre

Noah: We have a steak place in town where throwing peanut shells on the ground is not only allowed, it is expected.

The equivalent of Chances R to us here in CT was a place called Toad's in New Haven and all the big names played there often unannounced.  Being this close to New York carried some benefits.  The Beatles were there etc

The grand kids like to go out for luck or and eat peanut and throw the shells on the  floor . . . . Somethings never change.

That was a fun "Ask Geoffrey's" segment! I just love these two guys. They make a great team and they make it fun to learn about the history/nostalgia of good old Chicago! 

I was a fan of Wimpy's! It was such a rare treat to get something like that because my mom practically lived in the kitchen and cooked all our meals. 

Good morning Noah.  We still have a couple of those places around here.  The food, outstanding, the peanuts is just a plus to either start or end a meal

Hi Noah Seidenberg - I watched the whole segment. Reo Speedwagon and Bruce Springsteen ...WOW! I asked my husband if he remembered Wimpy's.  He was too busy getting White Castle Hamburgers any chance he could!  When I lived in SoCal we had a chain called Northwoods Inn, set up like mountain chalets where you could throw peanuts on the floor. You could get the best lobster, cheesbread, and salads there!

I wonder if Sheila Anderson saw any of the Wimpy's in her visit to Kenya. He said they are tons of them in South Africa so they may have migrated north.

Both places sound very nice, unfortunately, I never got to visit either of them, I guess they were before my time.

Noah, . , Many years ago I went to Chances R and I remember the peanuts.Totally forgotten memory until I read your post today. Have a fun Super Bowl Weekend or as the news says 'The Big Game" Spare me NFL!! 

Noah, we use to have a restaurant like that around here about 20 years ago.  I wish someone would open up another one.

Really neat photos to accompany your great memories, Noah.  We had a place here in Sacramento that I was fond of that allowed for eating peanuts while tossing the shells on the floor.  I loved the place!

We have a place here known as Texas Roadhouse where the peanuts land on the floors too, even though they hand you an empty basket when you are seated.

Noah, I always enjoy Ask Geoffrey. I love that you have such fond childhood memories eat at Chances R and Wimpy's, that's special. 

Some things like peanuts on the floor and a love for burgers never change, Noah Seidenberg ... but the prices of eating them surely has.  15 cents!  I'm happy to say I'm old enough to remember those days too ... well, happy in one way ...
