5 Things to Do With Your Spring House Guests

Spring is the perfect time to visit out-of-town family or friends. The weather is warmer, the roads are clear and the spring season is filled with tons of fun activities. If you are planning to entertain houseguests this spring, you might be worrying about how you will keep them occupied.

Here are a few ideas for activities that you might not have thought of already.

1. Attend a Local Baseball Game

Spring is baseball season, and attending a baseball game can be a fun way to get out and spend a few hours with the whole family. The upbeat atmosphere and built-in entertainment can help to make a trip to the baseball field a fun and memorable afternoon for adults and kids. As an added bonus, your out-of-town guests will be able to find city-specific memorabilia should they want to buy a souvenir.

2. Have a Picnic at the Park

As the weather starts to warm up, many people like to spend some more time outside. This is particularly true for those that live in a cold climate, so consider including outdoor activities when planning your agenda.

Packing a picnic lunch to eat in the local park can be a great, cost-effective way to enjoy a delicious meal with a fabulous view. Plan ahead to include everyone’s favorites on the menu and you are sure to create a memorable meal for the whole group.

3. Visit a Museum

Many cities have great museums that include attractions that can't be found anywhere else. Figure out what kind of unique museums are in your town and make sure that your guests do not miss the opportunity to learn a little bit of local history.

4. Visit a Historic Site

Most cities have at least a few National Historic Landmarks, and many of the sites listed on the Natural Register of Historic Places are open to the public. If your city includes any famous historic sites, consider including them in your plans for the week. Most out-of-town guests are looking to get a sense of the city and immersing yourself in history can be a great way to accomplish that.

5. Go for a Hike

Hiking is another affordable way to get out and spend some time surrounded by nature. Many cities have nearby state or national parks, so you can take full advantage of this by planning an afternoon hike with your guests.

Overall, it is best to keep your plans flexible and go with the flow. Who knows - your out-of-town guests might even have a special request!
