Life happens and we adapt. Texas Gulf Coast has always been one of our favorite destinations. Actually just about anywhere along the Texas Coastline is a favorite. Family vacations to Galveston, Surfside and Port Aransas were a constant port of call.
A few years ago, after our three children were grown we decided to make a move. We always visited a rv park and resort in Rockport. With family settled in Rockport, Texas we bought an old one bedroom recreational vehicle. I had the perfect spot chosen. The RV Park & Resort had recently added spaces. Not just regular spaces, extra large lots with trees. Well, This was exactly where I saw the two of settling in our forever home.
Life was great! We were the youngest couple living there and this made no difference. The park offered all the facilities, pool, hot tub, game room, videos, cable and Internet. Within walking distance to a convenience store. Perfect location. I actually got a part time job in the office and my husband worked on maintenance issues ten hours a week. Why not? Did I fail to mention we received free rent for our hours? Living there was one big party, always something to celebrate. Winter Texans arrived yearly. It was similiar to a year round large family reunion.
Beach Babies
Family and friends came to visit we spent time at the beach, in the pool, on the boat, fishing off the pier and of course sitting around bon fires on the beach.
My favorite past time? Shrimping. Yes, we had a working shrimp boat. My cousin managed the bait store in town as well as spent time on the water.
Time passed. I began taking longer trips back to Fort Worth. My 3 day trips became 5 days. Then it happened. My daughter and daughter in law were expecting. The next nine months I spent many hours driving that long six hour trip back and forth.
One bad winter storm I spent with friends. Couldn't make the trip in the storm. First Christmas morning I ever spent away from family. This Christmas was special. I will always cherish the excitement of my friends daughter as she woke me to see what was under the tree. After missing Christmas at home and with the kids. We determined to return home, to Fort Worth.
I still enjoy visiting Rockport. Although we only lived in Rockport two years this is one place I would return. Maybe when we retire!
