I love my business and this little blog gives me the chance to share my experiences as well as a chance to sit back and reflect on the past years and the reasons for my success. I am not thinking that this is an Oscar Award acceptance speech where I thank all the people who have contributed to my success but it might take that turn as I head down this road. Aw Shucks. Lets head down that road.
Year 1 was definitely the roughest and it was my sphere of friends who kept me in the business. I treated this as a learning year and I attended as many free classes as I could. I was actually the poster child at my KW office and could always found either in the class room or sitting desk duty. I did not know much but did learn a little and now really wish more had stayed because I relearned those lessons later in my career the hard way. My first sale was from a client who had worked in the office but no longer had a license. I helped several of her friends who quickly became my friends as well.
Year 2-4 I left the KW office and tried to work for a small boutique brokerage but did not really work smart during that period. I stayed in my home office and pretty much worked in my PJ's all day but did not really get much bang for my buck. I really needed a mentor, did not have one but really studied hard on my own for my own style. I read a lot those years and Buffine, Ferry, etc, etc had some great ideas that I tried to implement. I did hire a branding specialist in the form of Brandface and the team of Tonya Eberhart and Michael Carr turned me into a very professinal brand.
Year 4-... I am not really going to tell you how long I have been doing this but needless to say I returned to a major franchise, met some great agents and thought I had found a mentor. I continued to learn, got my Brokers license and contemplated hanging up my own shingle. I realized that all that glitters is not gold. My mentor was a straw man and did not practice the philosophies he preached. So I finally did find a mentor and coach in the form of Jared James. One of the largest coaching enterprises that I have ever seen. He is a bit on the young side but he has walked the walk, has a great family like and mixes humor with solid business practices. My networking with him, his students and his coaches has help me develop a great team of agents who have helped and shared in my business success. I can wax on with this little Oscar speach but if anyone has read thru this post and wants to hear more give me a shout'
