Should We Stage Our Long Island Home?

Our potential sellers asked us...Should We Stage Our Long Island Home?

As Realtors, we can tell you that homes we have seen staged here on Long Island get more showings and better offers than those that don't.

With that being said, staging is part of the process of getting a home ready for sale. As a seller, think about the last time you saw a home on a Real Estate website. Did a home that was furnished nicely make you more receptive to view that home as opposed to one that was dated with no appeal at all.

Look at your home as if you were the buyer and how would you rate it.

Many sellers think that buyers will find value in their home no matter what the competition looks like, and decide not to change anything. This is not the smart way to look at it. If buyers have a choice, you want to make sure your property stands out from the crowd.

Take a look at your color scheme and wall appeal. If you have wallpaper with roosters staring at you, wall to wall bold flower arrangements, or "old" harvest gold or avocado green appliances, you may need some freshening up. Most buyers are now attracted to freshly painted neutral colors.

If your house is cluttered with wall to wall big furnishings, eliminating some of it to make the space seem larger and more open. We showed 2 houses the other day in the same neighborhood. Though one was slightly smaller, it was staged and the buyers stayed longer in the staged one than the cluttered one.

Let your house be the "home" buyers can see themselves living in!

This is why builders furnish new model homes...better presentation for buyers to see how their furnishings will fit. Staging provides the buyer with a neutral backdrop to their imagination.

A Staged home assures you that it will be presented at its very best to potential buyers, and can dramatically increase your chance for a sale. As far as we are concerned...YES, Staging your home can help you sell your Long Island NY home faster and usually at a higher price!

"Staging" could mean painting and removing/rearranging items. It's very hard for some sellers to see things objectively though, and that's when it's a great idea to get an outside party to look at the home and give them ideas.

Good morning Lawrence "Larry" & Sheila Agranoff. Cell: 631-805-4400,

I agree with your "yes" answer to the question if sellers should consider staging their home to present their home in the very best light to buyers. They are more appealing and do help a home receive a higher offer in less amount of time.

Good morning, Sheila and Larry... I have only one response to your question if Long Island sellers should stage their home... "is the Pope Catholic?"

I see the same in my market, Sheila. It can make a big difference and should be considered by sellers.

Sheila, staging is something I seem to get the most push back on but, it pays off every time. Sellers on Long Island should hire you and then rely on your referrals to get their home staged. They'll be glad they did!

Good morning, Sheila and Larry --- why wouldn't a seller want to have their home looking its best?   The proper staging along with your marketing expertise is a great combination for a successful Long Island real estate transaction.

Good points made here in your post, Lawrence "Larry" & Sheila Agranoff. Cell: 631-805-4400 . Most sellers back off from the idea once they realize how much staging costs in our experience.

Staging does help and if it can't be done professionally then at least it should be clean, lighten the load and freshen paint and have all in good repair.
