Hurricane Harvey - The Story
From a N. Padre Island Realtor
Part 1
Here's a story you haven't heard about Hurrican Harvey. This one comes to you from a Realtor who was working the storm from afar with contacts on the Island.
It was an average week here, starting off with an eclipse and a tropical storm headed some direction, not sure where. It was sunny and beautiful all week with no real signs anything was coming. If you did not have technology, I can see how you could have easily been swept away by Harvey. Originally they were telling us it was a Cat 1 - no one was worried. We have had these before and although people were buying water at the store on Tuesday, there were mainly just jokes going around. By Wednesday the tune was starting to change as you saw on the news that morning it was now a CAT 2 or Possibly a CAT 3 storm. The stores were worse than "IF" Black Friday were advertising an 80" TV on sale with all the bells and whistles for $200. Everything was swept up off the shelves, if you didn't know better you would think Harvey stopped by HEB and cleaned everything out. By the afternoon on Wednesday or Thursday morning, we knew that we were within the cone area and they were predicting a CAT 3 storm. There were press conferences with the Mayor advising a voluntary evacuation of the Island and Flour Bluff and the Mayor's of Rockport, Aransas Pass & Port Aransas issueing a Mandatory Evacuations of their cities of Port Aransas, Aransas Pass & Rockport.
I knew this could possibly be the one, the one that we needed to fear.
I have lived here in this area since 2001 mostly on North Padre Island, but also in Flour Bluff and Corpus Christi. We have been blessed all of these years. The storms would normally turn and go above us or below us. Corpus Christi means "Body of Christ" and I have always felt as though God has protected this area because of that. Here are a few pictures taken a few days before Harvey came to the area.
These were taken from the Padre Island National Seashore.

When I saw this, I had to take a picture. By this time we were hearing about Harvey, but it was either Monday or Wednesday. I thought, God is protecting us and we should have no fear.
More to come on this story - there is lots more to tell from when Harvey arrived, evacuations, the devastations, and the blessings. Stay tuned!
