Best Parks & Hikes to Visit In Pasadena

By Kevin Jones

Hello friends, The Berns Team here! As you know, we love Pasadena and all it has to offer. Our team especially loves hiking and being outdoors, so we asked guest blogger and fitness enthusiast Kevin to share some great hikes and parks in the Pasadena area with you all

If you ever find yourself around the 19th-20th century charm of Pasadena, you might want to venture to its nature trails and friendly  neighborhood parks.  There you can enjoy  the local flora and fauna and get a real sense of why South Pasadena is part of the Tree City Program with the abundance of beautiful old trees lining its roads and well-kept parks and trails.

Parks

Pasadena residents take pride in the several family friendly parks found throughout town. These are popular spots for both active and leisure recreation with great playgrounds for the younger members of the family.

1. Arroyo Park

This is biggest park in the area taking up most of the park acreage found in South Pasadena. It is divided in three sections that house lighted sports parks with a small concession, picnic tables with a playground and small amphitheater, and an equestrian trail. In addition the park also has other forms of recreation such as golf courses, mini golf, batting cages and a skate park.

2. Garfield Park

Perfect for a picnic or a birthday gathering, Garfield Park has a playground, picnic tables and two lighted tennis courts.

 3. Eddie Park & House

A small park with a play and barbecue area that houses the historic Eddie House (a fantastic example of “transitional craftsman” architecture. The house itself is used as a meeting place for local organizations and programs such as  Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts.

4. Legion Park

Housing the War Memorial building, Legion Park is considered a city cultural heritage landmark. The building is used to host events such as dances and banquets as well as meetings. If you look North of the building, you can find  the beautiful memorial garden.

5. Orange Grove Park

One of the city’s older parks, Orange Grove now has lighted soccer and softball fields as well as tennis courts. In addition, it also has a picnic area and a small playground. If you have little ones that require care, the recreation  building has daycare programs.

6. Library Park

This is most likely the most low-key park on the list as its landscaped grounds are home mainly to nice walkways that are not only becoming to the Seniors Center residents but also a relaxing walk to clear your head.

 7. Arroyo Woodland and Wildlife Nature Park

The area includes the Arroyo Seco Trails as well as the Woodland and Wildlife trail where you can see the native California walnut trees. The area is geared toward balancing community recreation as well as protecting and restoring the local ecosystem with a nice and relaxing vibe and the opportunity to witness local fauna.
