On November 17, 2017, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and the U.S. Census Bureau reported nationwide housing building permits gained 5.9% to 1,297,000 units in October of 2017 from 1,225,000 units in September of 2017, and up 0.9% from 1,285,000 units in October of 2016. Single family building permits rose 1.9% to a rate of 839,000 units in October of 2017 from 823,000 units in September of 2017, and there were 416,000 multi family building permits issued in October of 2017.
Nationwide housing starts jumped 13.7% to 1,190,000 units in October of 2017, from 1,135,000 units in September of 2017, but declined 2.9% from 1,328,000 units in October of 2016. Single family starts increased 5.3% to a rate of 877,000 units in October of 2017 from 833,000 in September of 2017, and there were 393,000 multi family building starts in October of 2017.
Nationwide housing completions gained 12.6% to 1,232,000 units in October of 2017 from 1,094,000 units in September of 2017, and higher 15.5% from 1,067,000 units in October of 2016. Single family completions jumped 2.6% to a rate of 793,000 units in October of 2017, from 773,000 units in September of 2017, and there were 433,000 multi family completions in October of 2017.
