On November 17, 2017, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and the U.S. Census Bureau reported regional new housing starts and building permits, in the Northeast housing building permits rose 4.1% in October of 2017 from September of 2017, and gained 8.6% from October of 2016.
In the Midwest housing building permits up 3.8% in October of 2017 from September of 2017, but declined 5.0% from October of 2016.
In the South housing building permits increased 3.0% in October of 2017 from September of 2017, but down 0.5% more from October of 2016.
In the West housing building permits jumped 13.0% in October of 2017 from September of 2017, and higher 4.3% from October of 2016.
